A 12cm hand-painted Kutani-ware matcha bowl in the rare aochibu (blue-dot) technique with a Tessen (clematis) gold-leaf floral overlay — by Toujudo Kiln. Comes in a wooden gift box.
Aochibu (青粒 — "blue grain") is a Kutani decoration technique developed in the Taishō era (1912–1926): hundreds or thousands of tiny blue enamel dots are painted by hand, one at a time, each the same size, evenly spaced. The result is a soft, textured background that catches the light. Gold-leaf Tessen (clematis) arabesque vines sit over it — a Japanese symbol of perseverance.
The bowl is sized for a working matcha chawan — 12cm diameter × 7.6cm height — designed for whisking matcha and serving it in the traditional Japanese style.
