A small Kutani-ware cup hand-painted with a goofy "silly cat" (otoboke neko) face, by independent Japanese ceramic artist Higashi Takako.

Higashi Takako trained in the traditional Kutani painting and dyeing techniques of Ishikawa prefecture, then developed her own style — hand-drawn illustrations and short text messages on small everyday pieces. Her work sits somewhere between traditional Kutani craft and contemporary kawaii illustration. Each cup is hand-painted; subtle variations in line and colour are expected.
