A pair of hand-painted Kutani-ware yunomi teacups — silver-glazed base with gold plum blossom overglaze — designed as a meoto (couple's) tea set.
Bizan Kiln (美山窯) is a Meiji-era Kutani painting kiln in Nomi City, Ishikawa, where Kutani porcelain has been made for 360 years. The set is a meoto yunomi — a traditional Japanese pairing of two teacups of slightly different size, one for him and one for her, presented in matching design.
Plum blossoms (ume) are the first flowers of the Japanese year, blooming in February before the cherry. They symbolise resilience and quiet beauty. Painted in gold over a silver-glazed body, the combination is one of Kutani's most opulent.
