The kingfisher

The kingfisher is a bird of good fortune in Japan, associated with happy marriages and the granting of long-held wishes — which makes this little jug a quietly meaningful gift. Available as a blue kingfisher, a red kingfisher, or the richly patterned brocade (nishikihana) kingfisher.

The penguin

The round, slightly dozy eyes give this one a calm, pettable charm. The monotone glaze is finished by hand with a scatter of silver dots across the belly.
