A 280ml Arita-ware mug by Nanpu — two hand-painted white rabbits among delicate florals, in the Japanese moon-rabbit (tsuki usagi) folklore tradition.

Nanpu is an Arita-based ceramics manufacturer in Saga prefecture (Kyushu), where Japanese porcelain has been made for over 400 years. The moon rabbit (tsuki usagi) is one of Japan's most beloved folk motifs: the figure people see on the surface of the full moon — traditionally not a man, but a rabbit pounding mochi. The 280ml form fits comfortably in the hand, with a softly rounded body and curved handle.
