A small Arita-ware plate from Tasei Kiln's Musubi series — hand-painted with the ume musubi (plum-blossom knot) pattern, available in red or blue on a white porcelain base.

Tasei Kiln is an Arita-based ceramics manufacturer in Saga prefecture (Kyushu). The musubi (結び, "knot") is one of the oldest Japanese decorative concepts: a tied knot symbolises bonds, connection, and wishes that hold fast and don't come undone. The ume musubi takes the form of a stylised plum blossom knotted at the centre — a motif traditionally given at weddings, engagements and housewarmings.
