A 3-piece Arita-ware tea set — a kyusu teapot with built-in strainer and two matching sencha cups — hand-painted with white and red camellia (tsubaki) flowers on a deep ground.

Nanpu is an Arita-based ceramics manufacturer in Saga prefecture (Kyushu). Camellia (tsubaki) is one of Japan's auspicious flowers — it blooms proudly through winter, when other plants are dormant, and is associated with perseverance, vitality and good fortune. Painted here in white and red on a rich dark base.
