A hand-painted Arita-ware teacup and saucer set by Tasei Kiln — a shallow cup with a hidden surprise: when you pour a drink in, the petals of a cherry blossom appear in the surface of the liquid.

Tasei Kiln is an Arita-based ceramics manufacturer in Saga prefecture (Kyushu). The cup is moulded with a subtle blossom shape on the inside base; fill it about two-thirds and the petals reveal themselves. The saucer doubles as a small cake plate. Works for tea, espresso, coffee or clear soups.
