A hand-painted Kutani-ware mug decorated with gold florals over a deep colour ground — a contemporary form built on Kutani's classic kinkarazume (gold-flower-cluster) technique. By Toujudo Kiln.
Toujudo Kiln (陶寿堂) is a working Kutani kiln in Nomi City, Ishikawa prefecture. Kinkarazume (金花詰) is one of the most lavish Kutani decorative techniques: a dense, all-over pattern of gold florals overglazed onto a deep coloured background. The result is a piece that catches light in different ways depending on the angle.
Handmade in Ishikawa, Japan.
