A Kutani-ware sake set with tray — a tokkuri (sake carafe), two ochoko (cups), and a lacquered presentation tray — hand-painted with a red and white plum-blossom motif by Yoshinori Fukuda.

Kutani porcelain has been made in Ishikawa prefecture for 360 years, and the five-colour overglaze palette (red, green, yellow, purple and blue) is its defining feature. Yoshinori Fukuda is a Kutani master craftsman whose work hand-applies that palette with delicate brushwork. Plum blossom (ume) is the first flower of the Japanese year, blooming in February before the cherry — a symbol of resilience, renewal and good fortune.
