A handcrafted Kutani-ware yunomi (Japanese teacup) painted with a green sasanqua camellia motif — made in Nomi City, Ishikawa, where Kutani porcelain has been produced for 360 years.
Bizan Kiln (美山窯) opened in the late Meiji period (early 1900s) as a Kutani painting kiln, and has continued the tradition for over a century. Kutani is one of Japan's most recognisable porcelain styles, named for the village in Ishikawa where it began in the 17th century and known for its five-colour overglaze palette: red, green, yellow, purple and blue.
The sasanqua (山茶花) is a winter-flowering camellia, painted here in flowing green with delicate brushwork on the petals and leaves. The yunomi shape is the everyday Japanese teacup — tall, narrow, no handle, sized for warming both palms.
What's good about it

- Sasanqua camellia motif: a Japanese symbol of refinement and quiet vitality
- Food-safe glaze; suitable for hot and cold drinks
