A long rectangular tea coaster cut from Yamazakura mountain cherry wood — the same fine-grain Japanese hardwood traditionally used in tea-ceremony tools. Handmade by SALIU in Gifu prefecture.

Yamazakura (山桜 — "mountain cherry") is the wild Japanese cherry tree, prized in woodworking for its dense grain, soft pink hue and resistance to splitting. SALIU's coasters are cut and finished by woodworkers in Toki City (Gifu prefecture), an area with deep woodworking and ceramics traditions. The long rectangular format — known as a chashiki — holds a teapot and a teacup side by side, doubling as a small serving tray.
