Small Plate Mamesara coconeco Made in Japan

A mamesara (豆皿) — a small Japanese plate, traditionally used for soy sauce, condiments and small bites — etched with a cat-paw 'Coconeco' motif.

Mamesara are one of the small joys of a Japanese table: tiny plates set out for pickles, sauces, sweets, or a single seasonal item. They turn ordinary meals into something more deliberate. This one is made from soda-lime glass by Aderia (Ishizuka Glass), a Japanese glassmaker founded in 1819 in Iwakura, Aichi prefecture. The Coconeco motif — a stylised cat paw — is sandblast-etched into the base.

Beyond the table, mamesara also work as catch-all dishes for jewellery, paper clips, or earrings on a bedside table or desk.
