A 275ml Japanese ceramic mug — bisque (unglazed) clay base, indigo wave-pattern body, and a jumping rabbit motif sitting in the middle of it.
Made in Japan, the mug uses a partial-glaze technique: the lower section is left unglazed (the natural warm-coloured clay), the upper section is finished in deep indigo with a hand-applied wave pattern, and a small jumping rabbit is illustrated front and centre. The rabbit (usagi) is a Japanese symbol of forward progress; the wave pattern (nami) is one of the oldest in Japanese decoration.
Made in Japan.
