ARTISAN CRAFT
Hand-painted by artisans
Authentic Tsukasa Sample
Made in Japan

The Japanese sunny-side-up fried egg, handcrafted as a tiny piece of food art.

This sunny-side-up fried-egg keyring is made by Tsukasa Sample (つかさサンプル), a family-run food-replica workshop in Kawasaki, Japan, recognised as Kawasaki Meister — the city's highest honour for master craftspeople — across two generations since 1973.

Each piece is sculpted from vinyl resin and hand-painted: the glossy golden yolk, the slightly translucent white edges, the crispy rim where the egg met the pan. Because every keyring is built and painted by hand, no two are the same.

The fried egg (medamayaki — literally "eyeball-grill") is a Japanese breakfast staple and the most common bento box companion. Japan consumes more eggs per capita than almost anywhere else in the world.

The Art of Shokuhin Sampuru

Shokuhin sampuru, or food sampling, is a uniquely Japanese art form that originated in the 1920s. These meticulously crafted replicas of dishes and food items were created as display models for restaurants and shops, showcasing menu offerings with stunning realism. Each piece is a testament to incredible attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Tsukasa Sample: Guardians of Tradition

In the heart of Tokyo, Tsukasa Sample continues this storied tradition. For decades, these master artisans have been hand-painting and hand-sculpting food samples that capture the essence of authentic Japanese cuisine. Their dedication to preserving this cultural craft while adapting it for modern collectors makes them true guardians of sampuru heritage.

Care Instructions

Cleaning

Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive moisture. Hand-painted surfaces are delicate and should not be submerged in water.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the paint colors and finish. Consider keeping in a small pouch or padded case to prevent accidental damage.

Handling

Handle with care, as the hand-painted details are precision work. Avoid excessive pressure or bending, especially near the metal split ring attachment point.

Durability

With proper care, your Tsukasa Sample keyring will retain its beauty for years to come. The vinyl resin material is designed for everyday use while maintaining its authentic painted finish.
